Margaret IJsselstein Quilt Retrospective

The Woodstock Museum National Historic site is the venue for The Margaret IJsselstein Quilt Retrospective. The opening reception was on Sept 30 and was attended by family and friends. The introduction was given by Nienke Izurietta-IJsselstein and Helen IJsselstein, who has looked after the many quilts Margaret created over the years. Margaret was in her fifties when she picked up quilting and soon showed she was a master in her craft. Margaret had a gift to be bold and daring with colour, to make fabric flow like paint and was driven to finish each quilt and to start the next one again, full of vigor and focus. Margaret's strong faith and love for flowers are expressed in her quilts. Painting, knitting, sewing, home decorating and cooking were done with the same creative flair.

Margaret passed away this spring and I like you to know her through her quilts, a smart, creative woman.

Albert always had a special bond with Margaret. It was at Sjerp and Margaret IJsselstein's Frieslawn Farm were Albert started his Canadian farm experience .
